Frequently Asked Questions

Z87 marks eyewear that meets the ANSI/ISEA Z87.1 standard for basic impact. Z87+ means it also passed the high-impact tests, which fire a steel ball at the lens at speed. Most jobsites now require Z87+ as the baseline. The marking is printed on the frame and lens.

Match the tint to the light. Clear is for indoor work and low light. Smoke cuts glare outdoors in bright sun, much like sunglasses. Amber boosts contrast in overcast, foggy or dim conditions. Smoke lenses are a poor choice indoors or at dusk, since they reduce what you can see.

Yes, with over-the-glasses (OTG) styles built with a larger frame that fits over your regular eyewear. Your everyday glasses are not safety rated on their own, so they need a rated OTG pair on top or a dedicated prescription safety pair. The Peak OTG in this range is built for exactly that.

Safety glasses with a magnifying section built into the lower part of the lens, like reading glasses. They let you read gauges, labels and fine print without taking off your eye protection. Choose the magnification you would use in ordinary reading glasses.

A wraparound one-piece lens that covers the eyes and the sides of the face, giving broader coverage than standard two-lens glasses. It suits dusty work and tasks where debris comes from the side. Many fit comfortably over small prescription frames.

When the hazard reaches beyond your eyes: grinding, chipping, chemical splash and heavy spray. A face shield is secondary protection and is worn over safety glasses, which remain the primary eye protection. Visor holders mount shields to compatible hard hats. See our Portwest hard hats range.

Choose anti-fog coated lenses where available, keep the lenses clean with a proper lens cleaner, and allow airflow around the frame. Fogging is worst moving between warm and cold areas and when wearing a mask. Wraparound styles that seal close to the face fog more readily than open frames.

Because safety eyewear gets scratched, lost and broken quickly, and most crews buy in bulk to keep spares on hand. A scratched lens reduces vision and should be replaced. The product title states the pack size. Browse the rest of the Portwest range, or pair with Portwest work gloves.
